Shark Attack in Egypt Leads to Arm Amputation
On 13 September 2023, 34-year-old Zainab Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Qader was attacked by a shark while swimming near the Tirana Hotel beach in Dahab, Egypt. She was with her husband, just four meters from shore, when the shark bit her left arm.
The attack resulted in a complete amputation of her arm. She was rushed to Dahab Central Hospital and later transferred to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital. A tiger shark was spotted in the area earlier that day, but authorities could not confirm if it was responsible for the attack.
