Cruise Ship Passenger Fatally Attacked by Shark in the Bahamas

On September 6, 2022, 58-year-old Caroline DiPlacido from Pennsylvania was fatally attacked by a shark while snorkeling near Green Cay, Bahamas. DiPlacido, a project coordinator at Gannon University, was on a seven-day cruise aboard Harmony of the Seas and had booked an excursion with a local tour company.

During the snorkeling trip, a large bull shark estimated to be 12 to 14 feet long attacked her. Family members and boat operators rushed to her aid, pulling her onto the vessel and taking her to the nearest docking facility at Montague Beach, where paramedics pronounced her dead.

Green Cay is a popular snorkeling site known for its sea turtle population. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
