South African Businesswoman Killed in Shark Attack at Plettenberg Bay

On September 25, 2022, 39-year-old Kimon Bisogno was fatally attacked by a shark while swimming at Central Beach, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. Bisogno, co-owner of a popular Cape Town pizzeria, was on vacation with her husband and five-year-old daughter.

The attack occurred around 7:53 a.m. as she swam in waist-deep water, just 50 feet from shore. Witnesses reported that she screamed as the shark pulled her under. Her body was later recovered by rescuers, and a post-mortem examination confirmed her femoral artery had been severed.

Following the incident, local authorities closed the beach, posted warning signs, and provided trauma counseling for the family. The shark involved was believed to be a 13-foot white shark.
