Teen Surfer Bitten by Shark at North Avoca Beach, Australia

On August 31, 2022, 14-year-old Sunni Pace was surfing with his cousin Marley at North Avoca Beach, New South Wales, when he was bitten on the right hand and forearm by a shark. The attack occurred around 7:00 a.m. while the two were sitting on their boards. Marley initially thought he felt a seal swim beneath him, but moments later, Pace was bitten.

Pace went home before seeking medical help. He was later taken to Gosford Hospital, where doctors closed his wounds with five stitches. His surfboard also had bite marks.

Pace believed the shark was a bronze whaler, but experts from the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries examined the bite marks and identified them as being from a white shark.
