Swimmer Presumed Dead After Shark Attack at Point Reyes, California

On October 1, 2023, 52-year-old Felix Lewis N'Jai disappeared in a suspected shark attack while swimming at Wildcat Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m., approximately 25 to 50 yards from shore.

N'Jai, a kitefoiler originally from Gambia, was part of a wedding celebration and had gone swimming with two others. Witnesses reported seeing a large pool of blood in the water after the attack. A multi-agency search-and-rescue operation, including the U.S. Coast Guard, was launched, but N'Jai was not found.

After searching 21 square nautical miles, the Coast Guard called off its efforts the following morning.
