Surfer Loses Toe in Florida Shark Attack

On 19 February 2023, Bert Krebs, a longtime surfer in his 60s, was bitten by a shark while surfing at Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, Florida. Krebs initially thought he had kicked a rock, but soon realized a shark had bitten his left foot, taking the tip of his little toe.

A friend carried him to the road, where an off-duty firefighter provided first aid before he was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Despite the injury, Krebs remained philosophical, stating, “It’s their world, and I’m just visiting.”
