Arab Boy Taken by Shark in Sydney Harbour
Prior to 1903, an Arab boy was attacked and killed by a shark while swimming under Pyrmont Bridge in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
According to reports, the boy was among a group of street children bathing in murky water near floating logs. Suddenly, a grey nurse shark leaped out of the water, seized him, and swam away beneath the timber. He was never seen again.
Though the shark was identified as a grey nurse, some believe it was more likely a bull shark, given the location and attack style.
