Teen Injured in Shark Incident at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

On June 21, 2022, a teenage male was injured in a suspected shark encounter at the Pirate Family Campgrounds area of Ocean Lakes, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The incident occurred close to shore in the Atlantic Ocean.

Lifeguards typically monitor the water for schools of fish, which can attract sharks, but the area was not cleared until after the incident. Few swimmers returned to the water afterward. The injured teen was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
