Woman Bitten by Shark While Standing in Myrtle Beach Waters

On August 15, 2022, Karren Sites from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was bitten by a shark while standing in waist-deep water at 75th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The incident occurred just after noon.

According to Sites, the shark suddenly leapt from the water and bit her right forearm. She struggled to push it away before it released her. Her eight-year-old grandson, who was just 10 feet away, witnessed the attack.

Sites was taken to a hospital, where her injuries were sutured. Officials identified the species as a blacktip shark. A second person was also bitten a half-mile away the same day, but authorities could not confirm if the same shark was responsible.
