Diver Attacked by Great White Shark in South Australia

On November 10, 2023, 32-year-old Bridgette O’Shannessy was free diving near the jetty at Port Noarlunga, South Australia, when she was attacked by a great white shark at approximately 1:20 p.m.

O’Shannessy was diving with her partner, Brian Gordon Roberts, who quickly intervened by pushing the shark away and applying pressure to her injuries. A rescue boat arrived shortly after, providing first aid before transporting her to shore. She was then taken by ambulance to Flinders Medical Centre.

Initially considered life-threatening, her injuries were later confirmed as serious but not fatal. Authorities temporarily evacuated the beach while Surf Life Saving South Australia monitored the waters.
