Fatal Great White Shark Attack in South Australia
A tragic shark attack claimed the life of 55-year-old surfer Todd Gendle on 31 October 2023 near Granites Beach, South Australia. Gendle had paddled farther offshore than other surfers when a 4.2-metre great white shark struck. A witness saw the shark attack him twice before he disappeared underwater.
Rescue teams recovered parts of his surfboard and wetsuit. The area, known for its great white shark population, is close to a seal breeding ground, attracting sharks at this time of year.
