Surfer Killed by Great White Shark in South Australia
On 13 May 2023, 46-year-old teacher Steven Baccanello was fatally attacked by a great white shark while surfing at Walkers Rock in Elliston, South Australia. Witnesses saw the shark strike multiple times, and Baccanello disappeared underwater.
His surfboard resurfaced about 15 minutes later, but his body was never recovered. The attack prompted warnings for swimmers and surfers in the area.
