Surfer Survives Shark Attack in Hawaii
On 15 October 2023, 50-year-old surfer Kevin Kanehe was attacked by a shark at "The Bowl" in Hanalei Bay, Kaua‘i, Hawaii. As he sat up on his board, a 12 to 15-foot tiger shark struck from the left, clamping onto his leg. Kanehe managed to pry the shark off by putting a finger into its nostril, forcing it to release him. Fellow surfer Jeff McBride helped him to shore.
Kanehe sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his left leg and was taken to Wilcox Medical Center for surgery.
